In 2014, the Western Electricity Coordinating Council region added 29 percent of the nation’s new power generating capacity, more than any other region. About 4,487 MW of capacity came online in WECC territory. <!--more-->With the nation’s most aggressive renewable portfolio standard, California accounted for more than half the capacity added in the WECC region in 2014 and became home to three of the 15 biggest power plants completed in the nation that year. The projects were: The $840 million, 407 MW Topaz Solar Farm (photovoltaic and the nation’s 9th biggest plant), the $208 million, 310 MW Solar Star plant (photovoltaic and the nation’s 10th biggest addition), and the $1.2 billion, 280 MW Abengoa Mojave Solar Project (solar thermal and the nation’s 12th biggest).
