BrightSource filed Aug. 8 for state permission to build a 250 MW solar thermal power plant in Inyo County. The company is seeking California Energy Commission certification for its Hidden Hills Solar Electric Generating System. The project employs a new design aimed at cutting traditional solar plant land use by a third. It’s to be built on 3,280 acres of private land near the California-Nevada border. John Woolard, BrightSource president, called the project “environmentally responsible.” The project output is under contract to Pacific Gas & Electric.
