CPUC and SDG&E Spar over Transmission Rate Hike

By Published On: July 17, 2004

The California Public Utilities Commission on July 8 ordered San Diego Gas & Electric to return transmission rate increases. Those rates were passed through without CPUC approval, although they had been established by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. ?We don?t believe the Energy Division has all the facts,? said Ed Van Herik, SDG&E spokesperson, in defense of the utility?s rate hike. The commission signed on to the transmission rate case settlement that called for rates to be effective last October, he added. Van Herik did not specify the portion of the $32 million increase that has been passed through to customers. Commissioners agreed with Energy Division recommendations to consider sanctions against SDG&E.
