Seeking to be excused from the 2004 RPS solicitation, Southern California Edison told the California Public Utilities Commission that it plans to have 14,000 gWh of green power under contract this year. This represents one-fifth of its retail sales and currently meets the RPS mandate years in advance of the deadline. In its letter to the CPUC early this week, Edison noted that it issued an interim request for renewables offers before the RPS rules were set. Edison declined to provide the number of green megawatts it is likely to procure, stating only that the RFO was ?robust.? Regarding future plans, Edison said it would be better able to evaluate those prospects, including ?the likelihood of conducting a solicitation in 2005,? once the interim solicitation is finalized.
