Southwest Gas, with 185,000 customers in Northwestern California, South Lake Tahoe, Victorville, and Big Bear, received California Public Utilities Commission authorization for its general rate case June 12. Rates are set to rise—for instance, in Southern California rates are set to rise 5.2 percent. In Northern California, they’ll increase 7.6 percent. Lake Tahoe is set for the biggest increase at 12.6 percent. The company also worked out a plan to invest more into its pipeline infrastructure. The increase to the company over its last general rate case was $5.6 million for Southern California, $3.2 million for Northern California, and $2.8 million for South Lake Tahoe.
