SMUD Moves to Relocate Transmission Line

By Published On: April 20, 2007

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District board on April 19 unanimously approved the next step needed to relocate a section of the 230 kV Folsom Dam transmission line. The Folsom Dam Transmission Line Relocation Project would move the line section to the north of the proposed Folsom Bridge and road project, generally midway between the future road and Folsom Dam, to avoid impacts to a planned auxiliary spillway. The board also approved several agreements to facilitate the transfer of ownership of a 77 MW simple-cycle gas turbine generator at the former McClellan Air Force Base. Ownership of the facility is being transferred from the muni to the Sacramento Power Authority – a joint-powers authority consisting of the publicly owned not-for-profit utility district and its financing authority. The board also unanimously voted to adopt a resolution in support of the Partnership for Prosperity Clean Energy Technology Action Team, a collective of representatives from throughout the region who are developing strategies to increase clean-energy-related academic and private-sector research, start-up companies, investment capital, and education infrastructure.
