About 350,000 Southern California Edison and Los Angeles Department of Water & Power customers were without electricity as a result of damage from strong winds December 1. High winds continued at press time. Most of LADWP’s outages were in the main metropolitan area, with about a third in the San Fernando Valley, according to the utility. The utility reported outages were down to 100,000 from a high of over 200,000 at 11 p.m. Dec. 1. Edison reported 211,000 customers were without power Dec. 1. The California Independent System Operator showed no aberrant power outages on the grid and prices remained about $25/MWh on Dec. 1. The Los Angeles Emergency Management Department urged Angelenos to stay home on a city-wide red flag alert Thursday afternoon.
