NextEra sold the 507 MW Blythe Energy Center to equity investor LS Power, the company announced Nov. 22. The fossil-fueled plant was one of four the company divested this week. While LS Power is set to be the owner, NexEra employees continue to operate the facility for the next five years under a contract, according to NextEra spokesperson Steve Stengel. NextEra--most commonly associated with alternative energy facilities in California--built the natural-gas fired plant in 2003, according to Stengel. The Florida-based company is not getting rid of fossil or nuclear plants in favor of renewables, he added.
