Renewable Energy Transmission Initiative

RETI __________________ Jan 24 the RETI Coordinating Committee sent a letter to the RETI Stakeholders thanking them for their work in successfully achieving the purposes of the RETI and dissolving the Initiative. (RETI) is a statewide initiative to help identify the transmission projects needed to accommodate California’s renewable energy goals, support future energy policy, and facilitate transmission corridor designation and transmission and generation siting and permitting. The RETI effort was supervised by a coordinating committee comprised of California entities responsible for ensuring the implementation of the state’s renewable energy policies and development of electric infrastructure, namely: California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) California Independent System Operator (California ISO) Publicly-Owned Utilities (SCPPA, SMUD, and NCPA) Phases 1 and 2 of the RETI project resulted in the identification and refinement of Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZs) that hold the greatest potential for cost-effective and environmentally responsible renewable development. Due to time constraints, several modifications to the RETI analysis were not included in the final Phase 2A report. The Phase 2B report documents key changes made in the economic model, technology assumptions, competitive renewable energy zones, and out-of-state (OOS) resources. The report considered these changes and updates the economic analysis of the CREZ.
